3D Ultrasound Transmission Tomography Using Synthetic Aperture Focusing and Regularized Algebraic Reconstruction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ultrasound transmission tomography is presented as an imaging modality for breast cancer diagnosis. A 3D reconstruction technique is proposed for estimation of soundspeed images for the Karlsruhe 3D ultrasound transmission tomograph. The problems of sparse spatial distribution of ultrasound transducers and of low signal-to-noise ratio are approached using synthetic aperture focusing. The image reconstruction is done based on regularized algebraic reconstruction. The proposed method is tested on simulated data as well as on measured phantom data.

Accurate 3D reconstruction of bony surfaces using ultrasonic synthetic aperture techniques for robotic knee arthroplasty
Robotically guided knee arthroplasty systems generally require an individualized, preoperative 3D model of the knee joint. This is typically measured using Computed Tomography (CT) which provides the required accuracy for preoperative surgical intervention planning. Ultrasound imaging presents an attractive alternative to CT, allowing for reductions in cost and the elimination of doses of ioniz...
متن کاملImproving the quality of ultrasound images using Bayesian estimators
Medical ultrasound imaging due to close behavior of cancer tumors to body tissues has a low contrast. This problem with synthetic aperture imaging method has been addressed. Although the synthetic aperture imaging technique solved the low-contrast problem of ultrasound images, to an acceptable limit, but the performance of these methods is not even acceptable when the signal to noise ratio (SNR...
متن کاملSynthetic Aperture Ultrasound Image Reconstruction
In this paper real data was used to test the utility of synthetic aperture (SA) ultrasound imaging to overcome the limitation of conventional ultrasound image which include decreasing the frame rate and single transmit focusing. The images are reconstructed by using different types of transmission and used to test the effect of signal to noise ratio (SNR). The results show that increasing the n...
متن کاملSound-speed tomography using first-arrival transmission ultrasound for a ring array
Sound-speed tomography images can be used for cancer detection and diagnosis. Tumors have generally higher sound speeds than the surrounding tissue. Quality and resolution of tomography images are primarily determined by the insonification/illumination aperture of ultrasound and the capability of the tomography method for accurately handling heterogeneous nature of the breast. We investigate th...
متن کاملMulti-beamforming for 3D ultrasonic imaging
This work describes the development of a new 3D ultrasonic imaging method that combines different beamforming techniques (Phased Array -PAand Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique -SAFT-). The proposed methodology uses a silicone mask along the x-axis to produce a wide beam in the array width direction (y-axis). Then, a coherent-spatial composition of several phased array B-scan images is imple...
